I have it all figured out

I’m sure you’ve heard the question asked of someone you admire about how they do it all. You might have even been the one asking. And the typical answer that we hear is that they don’t do it all. That the only way they seemingly do it all is because they really aren’t. That they don't have it all figured out and they are just winging it as they go. While I love this answer and think it rings true for everyone in some way. I think there is a more honest answer I can give. I actually have it all figured out. I found the answer.

I actually have it all figured out

I hear women all the time admit that they don't have it figured out. They want others to know that they are just like them, trying to learn as they go and making mistakes along the way. I'm no exception to this. I'm definitely not perfect and strongly believe that perfect in that sense doesn't even exist. But even though I'm still working to learn every day how to do life, I realized that I finally figured it out.

The answer is that you don't have to have it figured out.

You don't have to know how to do it. You don't have to have every answer. You don't have to know what you're doing tomorrow or have everything planned for the next 5 years. You just have to take it one day at a time, trust God in the journey, and do the best you can.  That's it. That's the answer. Don't stress yourself out over trying to figure it all out because you don't have to.

The answer to how I do it all

Most people say the way they do it all is that they really don't do it all. They say no to a lot of things and choose to focus on what really matters. This is all true for me too. But I also think that answer has become too easy for us. When I stop and think about how I really get it all done in a day, I'm honestly amazed. I don't do it all, but I do a lot. I keep my to do list realistic and stopped being an overachiever a long time ago. I focus on the top priorities and try to be productive, effective, and efficient with my time. I leave room in my day for rest.

But at the end of each day, I can look back on what I did in such a short amount of time and I'm amazed. I actually did do it all, even if that means some things didn't get done. The number one thing I attest this to is my faith. My prayer for each day is that God will show me what I need to see and help me do what I need to do, and He never fails. Ultimately, I know I couldn’t do what I do each day without Him.

How I achieved balance

Part of learning how to do it all and figuring out this answer, meant that I have had to let go of some things along the way. Since having two kids, my business and life have shifted into a new season and I’ve had to adjust my way of thinking along with it. I learned to let go of the idea that I could be both a mom and business owner full time. With the right balance, I can do both, but I can’t do both full time. In reality, there just isn’t enough time in a day, and I’m only one person. When I stopped thinking this way, my balance became so clear. For this first time in a long time, I actually achieved balance. It’s not 50:50. But it’s balance for me, in this season.

When someone asks me how I do it all and how I have it all figured out, I want to answer honestly. I don’t do it all, and I’m learning every day just like you. But what I have figured out is that we don’t have to have the answers. We can walk through our journey one day at a time and focus on what is in front of us. Coming from someone who used to over plan and overachieve, this is a big step. But I’ve realized that in the end, none of that really matters. What matters is that we spend our time wisely, live in the moment, and see what God wants us to see each day.
