Dealing with issues as a solopreneur

When you are first starting a business, it can be tempting to do everything yourself. Solopreneurs are more common nowadays and often gives you the most freedom. You are able to grow your business as you would like, and you are not held accountable by anyone else, and you're not responsible for employees. But, on the flip side of it, if you are considering this approach, you would have to think about the various issues that are common with those people that work by themselves. So what are these, and how can you overcome them?

Gaps In Your Knowledge

Commonly, the vast majority of solopreneurs have a wealth of knowledge to draw from, but nobody's perfect, and we can't all assume that we know everything. We are prone to gaps in our knowledge, and this could be something very important to the business, or it could be something very minimal in the grand scheme of things. Something like technical issues can easily be solved by having managed IT services take the brunt of the work. But when it comes to other gaps in your knowledge, you have to ensure that you are constantly pushing forward. We all learn new things every day, but it's about maintaining that sense of focus, and knowing what you don't know. Don't ever assume that you know everything.

The Loneliness Factor

When you don't have a team of workers around you, loneliness is something that can be difficult to fight. Instead, to ensure that you aren't overwhelmed by loneliness, have mentors, other business leaders, and friends around you that can lend a sympathetic ear from time to time. When you take on this journey, you need to be prepared for the fact that the nature of the role can get you down on occasion.

Keeping Yourself Motivated

Likewise, keeping motivated when it's just yourself can be one of the biggest internal battles you will ever fight. The best way to tackle this is to find little hacks that work well for you, but also, by giving yourself some breathing space when you don't get something done. It's one thing to be continually demotivated, which could be part of a bigger problem, or you are just distracted all the time. If you are distracted, there are numerous ways to beat this, such as the Pomodoro method. And also, maybe it's worth installing a few applications to switch off social media! Just sayin’!

Overdoing Everything

The fact is we are running a business all by ourselves, so we have to put our heart and soul into it, but sometimes, this can be a little bit too much. Not only is overdoing it bad for your health, but you're not giving yourself that opportunity to step back and assess the business from a more pragmatic perspective. Don't think about it all the time. In fact, learn to trust your instincts better! It may sound counterintuitive, but sometimes you have to let your business run itself.
